I’ve worked in the medical field for 25 years, starting in medical records and working in a variety of positions since then. Wanting to advance my career, I decided to pursue my associate degree in healthcare administration through Herzing’s online program. I’ve always enjoyed helping people, and it’s important to stay updated on the many changes in the medical field.
Balancing a full-time job while supporting my son in his sports activities was challenging. Family is incredibly important to me, and that didn’t change when I began taking classes. It required sacrificing sleep and a lot of prayer, but I made it!
Erika Billings, my student advisor, was a tremendous help. She always responded to my emails promptly, and if she didn’t have the answers, she would forward my questions to someone who could assist me. I was surprised by how understanding and supportive everyone at Herzing was, especially during difficult times like illness or loss.
I plan to apply everything I’ve learned in my current role managing a family medicine practice, and I look forward to advancing to oversee other practices that include labs, x-rays, and urgent care.
My advice: don’t give up! It can be overwhelming at times but stay focused and know that your goal is within reach.
